adjudicators

We are delighted to introduce the following adjudicators for Festival 2013.

Blues Jam

Max Weedon BA (Hons) MA MA PGCE MiFL

Max Weedon has written songs and played in bands for over 20 years in a variety of genres. Probably the highlight for him was song writing and performing with reggae man Peddy D in the West Indies for the last ten years including working with Grammy winning producer Jimmy Haynes. Particular highlights including touring with Spiritualized, performing with Blur, Manic Street Preachers and being hit on the head by a guitar by Janick Gers from Iron Maiden.

After injuring his wrist he achieved his academic qualifications.  In his spare time he is a PADI diving instructor (MSDT).  He also likes to keep abreast of current affairs, ski, play football, golf and tennis.  He is currently a lecturer and Head of Music at the City of Bath College.  In order to create a more realistic environment for the music courses, the music team at the College have developed a record label called BA1Records and radio station called BA1.FM, where students not only develop their technical skills, but also see first-hand the processes involved in the operation of a record company and radio station.

Richard Perkins BA (Hons)

Described as “One to watch” by his peers, Richard is an exponent of the new age of conventional music courses available in the UK. Richard studied for an HND in Popular Music at Oxford College before moving to Bath to study the widely renowned Commercial Music Degree at Bath Spa University. While studying in Bath, Richard set up the Bath Guitar School which now accommodates over 70 students. Alongside teaching privately, Richard is a guitar faculty member for the International Guitar Festival where he teaches the annual Foundation Acoustic Guitar Course and is co-ordinator for the IGF Rockschool Rock Camps. Richard is also an instrumental examiner for the Rockschool in the UK’s only dedicated rock and pop exam board. As well as being a respected educator, Richard is also an active performer. His most notable music projects included R & B Soul Band, Groove Movement, Rock Band – Five Mile Drive and Richard currently performs in the Bath Guitar Due with award winning acoustic guitarist Stuart Ryan.

Bryan Husband GRSM AWCMD

Life as a singer, actor, teacher, adjudicator and ski instructor is what keeps Bryan challenged, solvent, and amused.  He has performed in the West End and in Opera Houses around the UK and abroad, and made many appearances on tv, radio, and recordings.  He is a tenor amongst tenors, having sung with Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Roberto Alagna and Josh Groban, to namedrop a few.

Bryan trained at the Royal College of Music, London, and the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff.  Recent performances have been in Bordeaux, Cyprus, Guildford, and, for Bryan’s Irish debut, at the Allihies Music Festival.  Adjudication has taken him to Hong Kong and all over the UK, most recently to Festivals in Perth, (Scotland, not Australia, but still hoping!), Cardiff (Wales) and Cleethorpes (can life become more glamorous?).

After some years spent abroad Bryan moved to Guildford, where he held for some years the posts of Head of Singing at Guildford School of Acting, and Lay-Clerk at Guildford Cathedral.  He now works as a freelance performer, tutor and adjudicator.  Future plans include adjudication in Scotland, Plymouth and Gibraltar, and ski instructing in Italy.  Bryan has recently moved to a remote village in County Cork, Republic of Ireland (not much skiing there), where he plans to run courses and to expand his career as a performer, tutor and adjudicator.  Find out more about him on www.ppatraining.co.uk/bryanhusband
