Pianists of different ages and abilities are able to choose from a wide range of classes, offering different styles of music.

Many of the keyboard classes take place in the Bath Guildhall which is at the centre of the city. The Piano Concerto class takes place in the splendid setting of the Banqueting Room in the Guildhall.

In the Junior and Intermediate age groups, together with a wide range of competitive classes, there are two non-competitive classes, one of which is for beginners.

In addition to other trophies, the WESTERN DAILY PRESS CHALLENGE TROPHY will be awarded to the outstanding young pianist aged 13 and under. The winner may be invited to perform at the Festival Concert on the final Saturday of the Festival, when the trophy will be presented

Senior Piano classes

There is a wide variety of styles of music to choose from, and all classes are ‘own choice’. They include: * Baroque piano solo * Classical piano solo * Romantic piano solo * Piano Recital – 20 minute programme * Enjoying Jazz There is also an Adult beginners’ class.

The BATH BUILDING SOCIETY TROPHY will be awarded to the pianist nominated by a panel of adjudicators as ‘the outstanding young pianist of the year.’ The decision is based on overall performance in at least three classes and/or a repertoire class. The winner may be invited to perform at the Festival Concert on the final Saturday of the Festival, when the trophy will be presented

Piano composition

There are also classes for the performance of a competitor’s own piano composition in which both the composition and the performance are taken into account.

Piano concerto class

Competitors will play a movement from any Concerto (or from a work in Concerto style). The winner will play again at the Concerto Finale at the Festival Concert, competing for the Premier Award of the Festival.

Piano duets and trios

There are a number of classes for all age groups and all are ‘own choice’.
