Monday 15 March 2010, Guildhall BathThe Mid-Somerset Festival is delighted to promote this singing competition, made possible by a legacy left by the late Thelma King, where generous awards totalling £2,250 are made annually to outstanding singers intending to pursue a professional career in order to help with further studies. A welcome innovation last year was the provision of an accompanist’s award. A prize of £500 was awarded to the best accompanist (aged 19 to 28 years) on the day. We are pleased to announce that this award will be offered again in 2010. If their application is successful, singers must present two pieces for the preliminary round and have a further piece prepared if they are selected for the Grand Final in the evening. All singers must bring their own accompanists and no official accompanist will be available. This is the eighth year of running this extremely successful and highly regarded competition and will be held in the Guildhall, Bath on 15 March 2010 heralding the start of Music Week. This year’s adjudicators will be Neil Jenkins, Penny Jenkins and Scott Johnson. Preliminary rounds will be held in the morning and afternoon sessions, with the Grand Final commencing at 7pm followed by a short reception. This will be an absorbing day of singing of the highest quality, and members of the public are welcome to attend all of the sessions. “Daytime Semi-Final admission is by special programme £3 (available at the door only).
