devised

This is a rapidly expanding and exciting section of the syllabus emphasising, as it does, imaginative and creative thinking. Actors use improvisation to help their understanding of a character or scene. Here we have gone a step further to enable performers to create their own vehicle and text in order to showcase their talents.

Devised Performance

Material for the scenes usually comes from a spontaneous and instinctive response to a stimulus which is then crafted into its final shape. Scenes must have a defined dramatic structure and the character(s) and situation given due consideration. The work has obvious links to GCSE Drama and A Level Theatre Studies but can also be used in all age groups to explore themes or experiment with new techniques.
